GSS Post Office Overhaul Procedure for cc:Mail DB6

Several command line options, some undocumented, can be used to rebuild or overhaul cc:Mail DB6 post offices.Overhauling a post office can be done as part of a database repair procedure or to ensure that a post office is in pristine condition prior to upgrade from DB6 to DB8.

To rebuild a cc:Mail DB6 post office follow these steps in the order shown using the cc:Mail Admin tools version 5.12 or later (note that the syntax show is different from the command line help):

Step 1: ANALYZE the post office
ANALYZE <Directory> DIAGNOSTICS
 
Step 2: If NFT errors are present, run CHKSTAT with the NFT/C parameter (undocumented)
CHKSTAT <PO Name> <PO Password> <Directory> NFT/C
 
Step 3: Rebuild Message Index
CHKSTAT <PO Name> <PO Password> <Directory> DIAGNOSTICS/M
 
Step 4: Reconcile counters and message pointers
CHKSTAT <PO Name> <PO Password> <Directory> DIAGNOSTICS/R
 
Step 5: Rebuild the directory index (undocumented)
RECLAIM <PO Name> <PO Password> <Directory> DIRECTORY DIAGNOSTICS/A
NOTE: To repair broken directory chains, run BFORCE.
 
Step 6: Reclaim the post office
RECLAIM <PO Name> <PO Password> <Directory>
 
Step 7:

ANALYZE the post office
ANALYZE <Directory> DIAGNOSTICS
 

Analyze should now run cleanly (no errors).  The post office is now ready for use or for upgrade using PCONVERT.

NOTE: It is recommended to purge old e-mail and run CHKSTAT and RECLAIM before converting DB6 post offices to DB8.
